RON is the native token of Ronin, the blockchain built by Sky Mavis, the studio behind Axie Infinity. You use it to pay gas, which is the fee for every transaction on Ronin, and you can trade it on Katana DEX. Staking RON for rewards is not available right now, according to Ronin’s own May 2026 announcement. Ronin moved to Ethereum as a Layer-2 chain in May 2026, and RON stayed as the gas token.

Updated October 2026. Facts below were checked against Ronin’s blog, Ronin’s documentation and CoinGecko on October 21, 2026.

Key takeaways

  • RON pays gas on Ronin. Ronin’s blog says: “Ronin will continue to use RON for gas.”
  • Maximum supply is 1,000,000,000 RON. CoinGecko listed about 772.4 million as circulating on October 21, 2026.
  • Yearly emissions of new RON fell from 45 million to 5 million, and Ronin says future emissions go to builders.
  • Ronin says there is currently no way to stake RON and earn rewards.
  • For the live price, see RON price today. This page does not repeat it.

What is the RON token?

RON is the native coin of the Ronin chain. “Native” means the network itself runs on it, in the same way ETH is the native coin of Ethereum. Ronin’s documentation says RON lets users “pay for transactions on Ronin”.

Ronin launched in 2021 with Axie Infinity as its first game and has since added other onchain games. For background on the chain, read our guide to Ronin Network.

In May 2026 Ronin finished moving from its own standalone chain to an Ethereum Layer-2. A Layer-2 is a separate chain that settles its records on Ethereum. Ronin’s blog post of May 13, 2026 says “Ronin’s migration to Ethereum is complete” and that the move kept RON as the gas token.

What is RON used for now?

Gas on Ronin

Every action on Ronin, such as sending tokens, swapping on a DEX or using a game, costs a small fee paid in RON. You need a little RON in your Ronin Wallet before you can do anything else. Ronin’s documentation and blog both describe RON as the token for transactions and gas.

Trading on Katana DEX

Katana is the official decentralized exchange on Ronin. Ronin’s documentation says it lets you exchange RON for other ecosystem tokens, such as AXS and SLP, using liquidity pools supplied by the community. You pay gas in RON for each swap. Our Katana DEX guide explains how swaps and fees work.

Governance

Ronin’s tokenomics page says RON includes features such as “community governance”. That page has no date, and the May 2026 post says the Governing Validators will vote to renounce their roles, with more details to come. We found no current Ronin source that describes how a regular RON holder votes today, so treat governance as unconfirmed.

What is the supply of RON?

Ronin’s documentation states: “The max total supply is 1,000,000,000 and it can potentially be unlocked after 108 months (9 years).” It adds that tokens unlock over time and that circulating supply never exceeds the unlocked supply.

Measure Figure Source and date
Max supply 1,000,000,000 RON CoinGecko, viewed October 21, 2026
Circulating supply About 772.4 million RON CoinGecko, viewed October 21, 2026
Yearly emissions before May 2026 45 million RON Ronin blog, May 13, 2026
Yearly emissions after 5 million RON Ronin blog, May 13, 2026

Circulating supply changes over time, so check CoinGecko for the current number. The documentation lists the original split of the maximum supply as 25% rewards, 30% community incentives, 30% Sky Mavis and 15% ecosystem fund. Because that page is undated, it may not reflect later changes.

What changed with RON emissions?

Emissions are new RON created and paid out by the network. Ronin’s blog says emissions “decreased from 45M RON/year to 5M RON/year”, which it calls a 9x reduction. It puts the resulting inflation from emissions at about 1.2% per year.

The blog also says all rewards now flow directly to builders. This works through Proof of Distribution, a system where registered contracts earn RON each epoch, a fixed time period, based on their on-chain activity. The post gives the builder pool as 410,000 RON per month.

RON vs WRON: what is the difference?

WRON is a wrapped version of RON. “Wrapped” means RON is packaged into a standard token so apps that expect that format can use it. Ronin’s blog also mentions swapping “wRON” for RON, and Katana pools may use the wrapped version. Always check the contract before you send anything, using our page on the RON token contract address.

Can you stake RON?

Not at the moment. Ronin’s May 13, 2026 post says: “There’s currently no way to stake your RON and earn rewards.” Ronin’s older tokenomics page still describes staking through validators, but it is undated and the newer post says rewards now go to builders. Be wary of any site that advertises RON staking with a fixed return. Full details are on our RON staking page.

Where does RON trade?

Ronin’s documentation lists these exchanges for RON: Binance, Coinbase, OKX, Crypto.com, Gate.io, Bitget, MEXC and Coins.ph. Availability depends on your country. You can also get RON through the on-ramp partners Ramp and OnMeta in the Ronin Wallet, or swap for it on Katana once you have assets on Ronin. Step-by-step instructions are in our guide on how to buy RON token.

People searching “ron dex” usually mean Katana, the DEX on Ronin where RON is one of the main trading tokens.

What are the risks of holding RON?

  • Price swings. Crypto prices can move sharply in either direction, and RON is no exception.
  • Policy changes. Emissions and rewards were changed in May 2026. Rules can change again.
  • Outdated information. Some guides and even parts of the docs still describe staking. Check the date on anything you read.
  • Scams and fake apps. Phishing sites copy wallets and DEXs. Never share your seed phrase, and type official addresses yourself.
  • Liquidity pool losses. Providing liquidity to a pool can lose value through impermanent loss, and profit is not guaranteed.

FAQ

What is the RON token?

RON is the native token of Ronin, the Ethereum Layer-2 chain from Sky Mavis. It pays gas for every transaction on the network.

What is the max supply of RON?

1,000,000,000 RON. CoinGecko listed about 772.4 million in circulation on October 21, 2026.

Can I stake RON?

Ronin says there is currently no way to stake RON and earn rewards. Emissions now go to builders through Proof of Distribution.

Is RON the same as WRON?

No. WRON is a wrapped version of RON used by apps and pools that need a standard token. Check contract addresses before sending funds.

What is the RON DEX?

Katana is the official decentralized exchange on Ronin, where you can swap RON for tokens such as AXS and SLP.

Do I need RON to use Ronin?

Yes, a small amount, because RON pays the gas fee on each transaction.
