Katana Network KAT airdrop eligibility and claim guide

Katana airdrop eligibility came down to one thing: staking Polygon’s POL token between May 1, 2025 and the March 3, 2026 snapshot. Eligible wallets received vKAT, the staked form of Katana Network’s KAT token, with the first 140 million vKAT claimable from March 18, 2026 through the official app at app.katana.network.

This guide covers Katana Network (KAT), the DeFi-focused Ethereum Layer-2 with chain ID 747474. Katana.so is an independent guide site and is not affiliated with Katana Network or the Katana Foundation.

Key takeaways

  • The Katana airdrop went to POL stakers, based on how much POL they staked and for how long.
  • The community airdrop bucket is 1.5 billion vKAT, or 15% of KAT’s 10 billion supply.
  • 140 million vKAT became claimable on March 18, 2026. Another 960 million vKAT unlocks in four equal tranches on the anniversaries after that date.
  • Airdropped tokens arrive as vKAT, which cannot be transferred. Exiting takes a 60-day cooldown with an exit fee.
  • Only claim through app.katana.network, and type the address yourself.

Which Katana airdrop does this cover?

Three unrelated crypto projects use the Katana name, and airdrop searches often mix them up:

Project What it is Airdrop
Katana Network (KAT) DeFi-focused Ethereum Layer-2, chain ID 747474, incubated by Polygon Labs and GSR Yes, to POL stakers (this guide)
Katana DEX Decentralized exchange on the Ronin network for swapping RON, AXS and SLP No token of its own
Katana Inu (KATA) Token from a separate gaming project Not covered here

Who was eligible for the Katana airdrop?

You were eligible if you staked POL, Polygon’s native token, between May 1, 2025 and the snapshot on March 3, 2026. The Katana Foundation says allocations depend on the amount of POL staked and how long it stayed staked. Polygon’s announcement of Katana Network said the drop would include POL staked through liquid staking protocols on Ethereum.

These did not qualify a wallet on their own:

  • Holding POL in a wallet without staking it.
  • Using Katana DEX on Ronin.
  • Buying KAT after it launched.

How much KAT went to airdrops?

KAT has a fixed supply of 10 billion tokens. According to the Katana Foundation’s token announcement, last updated on March 17, 2026, the user-facing allocations break down like this:

Allocation Amount Share of supply
Community airdrops, paid as vKAT 1.5 billion vKAT 15%
POL stakers, unlocked at launch 140 million vKAT 1.4%
POL stakers, four annual tranches 960 million vKAT 9.6%
Pre-deposit Krates 70 million KAT 0.7%
TVL commitment rewards 930 million KAT 9.3%

The last two rows reward users who deposited assets on Katana. They are liquidity-mining programs, not part of the POL staker airdrop. The full supply split is in our KAT tokenomics breakdown.

How do I check eligibility and claim the Katana airdrop?

  1. Type app.katana.network into your browser yourself. Do not follow claim links from direct messages, replies or ads.
  2. Connect the wallet that staked POL during the eligibility window.
  3. Open the claim section and check the allocation shown for that wallet.
  4. Confirm the claim transaction in your wallet, then check that vKAT shows in the app.
  5. Check the app again after each anniversary of March 18, 2026, when the next tranche unlocks.

POL stakers can also follow community drops on Polygon’s staking dashboard.

Type the claim address yourself and check it before you connect a wallet.

What is vKAT, and can I sell it?

vKAT is KAT locked in Katana’s staking system. Katana’s token documentation describes it as a non-transferable NFT, so you cannot send or sell it directly. Holding vKAT gives you voting power on gauges, which decide where KAT emissions go, and makes you eligible for voting rewards.

To turn vKAT back into liquid KAT, you start a 60-day cooldown. Leaving early costs an exit fee that falls from 25% to 2.5% over that period. The other route is avKAT, a transferable vault token you can sell on a DEX or redeem back to vKAT. Our vKAT vs avKAT guide compares the two.

Can I still earn KAT if I missed the snapshot?

The POL staker snapshot closed on March 3, 2026, so staking POL now does not add to that airdrop. KAT still reaches users in other ways:

  • App incentives: the Katana Foundation set aside 400 million KAT for Sushi and 250 million for Morpho users, with up to 350 million for future apps. vKAT gauge votes help steer emissions.
  • Quests: the official Katana app has a Quests section that rewards on-chain activity.
  • Buying on an exchange: see how to buy KAT for venues and risks.

Treat any claim of a “second Katana airdrop” with suspicion unless it is announced on katana.network.

Common Katana airdrop mistakes to avoid

  • Using a look-alike claim site. Check the spelling of app.katana.network before you connect anything.
  • Signing approvals you did not start. Reject any wallet prompt that asks to spend your other tokens.
  • Confusing KAT with KATA. Katana Inu’s KATA token has nothing to do with Katana Network.
  • Expecting liquid tokens. Airdropped vKAT is locked, so plan for the 60-day cooldown or use avKAT.
  • Sending funds to “unlock” an airdrop. No legitimate project asks you to send tokens first.

Frequently asked questions

Who qualified for the Katana airdrop?

Wallets that staked POL between May 1, 2025 and the March 3, 2026 snapshot, including POL staked through liquid staking protocols on Ethereum.

When could Katana airdrop tokens be claimed?

The first 140 million vKAT became claimable on March 18, 2026, when KAT became transferable. The remaining 960 million vKAT unlocks in four equal tranches on later anniversaries of that date.

Where do I claim the Katana airdrop?

Only through the official Katana app at app.katana.network. Katana.so does not run claims and never asks you to connect a wallet.

Is this the same as a Katana DEX or KATA airdrop?

No. This airdrop is for KAT on Katana Network. Katana DEX on Ronin has no token, and KATA belongs to the unrelated Katana Inu project.

Can I sell airdropped vKAT right away?

No. vKAT is non-transferable. You can start a 60-day cooldown with a falling exit fee, or use avKAT, which is transferable.
